The Church of the Ascension, Lake Como
The church is located right opposite the Cadenabbia ferry landing station on the Western lakeshore of Lake Como, see Map. The nearest town is Menaggio.
The Sunday service is Holy Communion at 10.30am, conducted in English, in May, June, August, September and October. Please note that during July 2012, the Sunday service will be Evensong at 17.30. During July there will also be a Said Eucharist on Wednesdays at 10.00.
Afterwards refreshments are served outside on the patio. The congregation is a mix of permanent residents and international visitors.
Services are conducted by locum chaplains from the worldwide Anglican community who will be resident in the village.
Wedding Blessings
The Anglican Church in Italy cannot perform legal marriage ceremonies. However, couples are welcome to have their civil marriages blessed in the church. The Church of the Ascension continues to be in great demand for wedding blessings from couples from all over the world due to its beautiful location, together with excellent accommodation and reception locations in Villas and local hotels on the lake. Services for the renewal of marriage vows are also popular, as well as couples having their children baptized.
Enquiries for these are welcomed. The church requests a fixed donation towards running costs and maintenance. This includes use of the church, chaplain and organist, a simple application form will be provided on request. Payments are made by electronic transfer with a deposit after the application has been accepted.

The church has a very active summer concert program either through its own efforts or within the Lake Como Festival, due to its excellent acoustics. (Details of the concert programme for 2012 will be posted shortly).
The Ascension Church has long been regarded as one of jewels-in-the-crown of the Diocese in Europe and services in English have been held there for well over 100 years. Situated on the western lakeshore, the building is the masterpiece of Giorgio Brentano, a young Italian architect. It was completed and consecrated in 1891 and few leave without hopefully being enchanted by its exquisite interior and charming location. Its position couldn’t be more spectacular, nestling just a few meters from the ferry landing station and directly opposite the picture-postcard villages of Bellagio and Varenna.
Administration
The Church of the Ascension is part of the Archdeaconry of Italy and Malta and is in the care of Fr. John Payne, the Priest-in-Charge of Milan. It has its own Church Council that, together with Fr. John, manages its running and finances.
